Los Angeles Landmarks Series, 2003-2012
LA Landmark Beer Steins
In 2012 I was invited to participate in an exhibition at the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, CA. The show, German Mettlach Ware & Present Day Translations, inspired a series of beer steins as an exciting evolution of the Landmark Plate series. In keeping with tradition, the metal elements of the steins have been cast in pewter. I traveled to Placerville, California to meet with George Kysor of the Baker Art Foundry and Pewter Works, who cast and assembled the pewter components as per my designs.
LA Landmark Plates
The Los Angeles Landmark Plate Series was produced in 2003-4 at the Grazia Maiolica Factory in Deruta, Italy specifically for a solo exhibition of my work in the All Russian Museum of Decorative, Folk and Applied Arts in Moscow, Russia. The original series included a dozen plates with images of iconic sites around Los Angeles, as I wanted to bring an impression of Los Angeles to a Russian audience. I designed the plates and they were produced at the renowned Grazia Maiolica Factory in Deruta, Italy where I have enjoyed a successful relationship as a designer of ceramics since 1989. They are all 11" in diameter.
