Objects of Memory, 2015-2017
WORKS: Chinese Cabinet, Livingroom Table, Bedroom Side Table A, and Bedroom Side Table B
Objects of Memory, is a body of work began in June 2015. It is a recollection of items accumulated over a lifetime under the keen eye of my mother that recall growing up surrounded by beautifully crafted things. This experience was a strong influence in my appreciation of art and my decision to become an artist. The works in this series are unglazed porcelain, placed in monochromatic domestic settings that present an ephemeral snapshot of the past.
Karen Family Embroidery, 2017
In the last few years I have been researching Czech Koblitz family members that perished in the Holocaust. This piece is a memorial to them and documents each of them with their last known residence, date of birth and last known date they were alive. All were transported from cities of Praha (Prague), Olomouc, Třebíč , and Vysoké Mýto to Terezin (Theresienstadt), a concentration camp in the north of Czechoslovakia, then to their deaths in Auschwitz, Baranoviči, Lublin, Maly Trostinec and Treblinka.
